Jonathan Andre Culliton

Jonathan Andre Culliton is a Boston-born, British Columbia-based trans filmmaker and comedy writer. A graduate of the New York Film Academy, Culliton is the creator of “Bombshell,” a digital series streaming on Amazon. It was the first ever comedy to feature a gay trans masc character as the lead.

Culliton is the director and co-writer of “Spookable,” a horror comedy short starring Alexandra Grey and Marval Rex.  The film was produced by Zackary Drucker and selected by Lillly Wachowski for Maryland Film Festival, His follow-up to “Spookable,” “Willa Justice: Drag Queen Private Eye,” a recipient of the Out on Film Filmmaker Fund Grant, debuted months later. Both films continue to tour around the world.

His first foray into the documentary world, “Minister Chucky,” co-directed with husband Graham Kolbeins, premiered at Queer Screams in August 2025.

Culliton produced Michael Yip’s award-winning musical short “The Gay Mafia” and Sarah Taborga’s ball culture doc “Dear Queer Dancer” for PBS. He recently released “Outage,” a desert alien story (directed by Kolbeins) starring Emmett Preciado.

Culliton also has decades of experience as talent. Getting his start as a child in Boston’s theater scene and in regional PSA’s, Culliton started hosting the Girl Scout Show on cable access television when he was eleven years old. Today, in the podcast world, Culliton hosts “The Trans Cinematic Universe,” an immersive deep dive into trans and queer cinema. Culliton makes an appearance in the Agender music video “Top Bottom Top,” (Outfest 2022), and “American Masculinity” for Tom of Finland at the Liminal Space Gallery.

Along with Kolbeins, Culliton is founder and curator of the 29 Queer Film Festival, a collaboration with the tourism board of Twentynine Palms, CA. 29QFF is an immersive, multi-media festival designed to showcase and celebrate desert-based filmmakers with unique elements like drag performances, themed snacks from the films, and prop exhibits.

Culliton lives on a beautiful Canadian island with his husband and their two beloved cats, Puma and Lynx. He is a sports fanatic who enjoys cooking, playing softball with fellow queers, and obsessing over Gilmore Girls.
